Once the 2012 games started I realised that I needed something to knit that wouldn’t require any concentration at all. So I made this and wrote up some instructions in case you want to make one.

All rows are exactly the same.
The only stitches used are knit and knit front and back (kfb).

The original idea was to alternate one solid yarn with one self-striping - maximum impact, minimum effort - but you could use just one colour or lots.

You’ll need a total of approx. 440yds/400m of yarn (any weight, one, two or more colours, combine different weights for an interesting effect).

You will knit bottom-up so you can just stop when you run out of yarn or when you like the size.

The shawl can be knit with no border, but for a more polished look, you can choose from 3 options for tidying the edges - all quick and easy.

Or improvise your own - some stunning examples already…
