For 2012 I made this simple garter stitch pattern: link

For 2016 I’ve made a new one.

It’s a fun construction - you just start and then make a few decisions as you go along; but virtually no concentration is needed, leaving you free to focus on the athletics. (similar to the construction of my yarn optimiser cowl pattern)

The original yellow one was made with just 300m of bulky mohair on 9mm needles.

but you can make it with any yarn weight on any needle size.

If you want to make a scarf - allow approx. 400m/440yds
For a deeper stole allow approx. 600m/660yds

It can be a scarf or stole depending on the size you make.
As with the 2012 pattern, there’s lots of scope for embellishing the ends - cables, lace, colourwork, beading (maybe for the laurel you’re missing. ☻)

Clarification: sl1 pw wyif = slip 1 stitch purlwise with yarn in front.
