The rope-like cables of the Kaarlo vest were inspired by Anna Johanna’s grandfather. Years after learning to spin yarn, Anna Johanna discovered that her grandfather was surprisingly familiar with the process, having worked as a rope maker in his youth. Crisp broken ribbing is paired with contrast-coloured cables worked using the intarsia technique, creating an engaging knitting experience. Whether worked in subtle, low-contrast shades or with a bold accent colour, the cables remain the focal point of the design.

NOTES
This vest is worked in Broken Rib with a contrast-coloured cable panel on the right front. It is worked flat from the top down using a European shoulder construction, with a deep V-neck and a double-knitted button band finished last.

The Rope Cable is worked as a combination of intarsia and stranded knitting. During the cable pattern, carry the other colour along the WS like you do for stranded knitting. At the end of each cable pattern row, catch CC with MC: work the next MC stitch taking the MC yarn under CC, and work the following stitch taking the MC yarn over CC. Drop CC and let it wait there for the next row.
