This pattern got its name from a song by Finnish band Kotiteollisuus. Finnish word ”kaiho” means something like longing and yearning.

Kaihola is worked from the top down, first soothing stockinette stitch body and then the lace edging. Stockinette body may be worked larger.

The shawl shown is knitted with DK weight merino wool, but this shawl would be lovely in fingering or sport weight yarn too!
