> Kailua the Manta Ray

Kailua the Manta Ray
Manta rays are graceful giants of the ocean, gliding effortlessly through the water with their massive, wing-like fins. These intelligent creatures have the largest brain-to-body ratio of any fish and are known for their curious and social behavior. They filter-feed on plankton, using specialized cephalic lobes to direct food into their mouths. Kailua is a female and named after the town Kailua-Kona on the west coast of Big Island, Hawaii.
ABOUT THE PATTERN
The PDF includes detailed instructions on everything you need to know to crochet Kailua the Manta Ray and her Remora friends. It can be followed step-by-step and is accompanied by photos for all the trickier parts.
Next to the written pattern, the PDF includes a list of all needed materials & tools, a table of all stitch types/abbreviations required for this pattern, and also a tutorial section with detailed explanations for some of the more unusual used stitches and techniques. The exact yarn colors & skein amounts I used are also included in the pattern.
The pattern also contains schematics for the back and belly patterns to easier follow the color switching instructions, as well as blank schematics to design your own color variants!
If you find any typos, mistakes, or unclear parts, please let me know and I’ll do my best to correct & update the pattern!
ABOUT THE FINISHED MANTA RAY
With the hook size and yarn type I’m using, the final manta ray roughly measures 30cm long (without tail), 8cm tall (measured at the widest torso part), and has an approx. wing span of 50cm (measured from tip to tip). Each remora is approx. 5cm long and 2cm wide.
