Kaleidoscope
KALEIDOSCOPE is an Overlay Mosaic pattern worked from the centre out, in the round by Silver Hook Crochet.
There are FOUR sizes of pattern available and full guidance is given for all of these in both chart format and written pattern:
SMALL TILE - versions 1 and 2 measuring approximately 13cm squared with 16 rounds
LARGE TILE - measuring approximately 28cm squared with 32 rounds
THROW SIZE - measuring approximately 150cm squared with 137 rounds
FULL SIZE BLANKET - measuring 165cm squared with 186 rounds
My Gauge, using Hobbii Twister/Friends Wheel and a US (D) hook is 24 stitches x 24 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4”.
Overlay Mosaic is a crochet technique which creates intricate colour work designs using very simple stitches. In this pattern, you will work from the centre out, in the round with the pattern side (right side) of your work always facing you. You will work each round in alternating colours, keeping both the main colour and contrast colours attached, swapping over as required at the start of each new round. Guidance is given on how to change colour and carry the unused yarn.
One clear benefit of working overlay mosaic in the round = only two ends to weave in to finish, and therefore no need for an envelope border to hide multiple cut ends.
This pattern is written British English/Grammer, using US Crochet Terms.
Yarn used to make the full size blanket in the first photo is
Main Colour/Background:
Hobbii Twister - Snapdragon (x1) and Golden Glow (x2.5) 3600m
Contrast Colour/Pattern:
Hobbii Friends Wheel - Sand (x7) 2800m
For information purposes, my Testers have created Project pages which detail yarn usage for the different sizes of the pattern made.
Small and Large Tiles are PERFECT for using yarn leftovers.
Overlay Mosaic Crochet can be done using any yarn weight. If you choose to use a different yarn weight or hook size to that described in the pattern, the yarn amounts required and the finished project size will differ.
CROCHET SKILL LEVEL - This pattern is suitable for Intermediate Crocheters, and Adventurous Beginners who have already dipped their toes into Overlay Mosaic Crochet.
There are THREE documents to download for this pattern
- Main document is the Pattern Instructions, Written Pattern and Charts
- Single page full size charts for both the Throw Version and the Full Size Blanket Version which work well with apps such as Knit Companion to allow you to work digitally.
