This sock was inspired by the song ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ by The Beatles. I love this song and when I was going to knit this sparkle yarn by Polka Dot Sheep, it looked like the night sky. I added a colorwork motif to mimic diamonds and stars. To add a bit of texture, I knit the colorwork with suri alpaca yarn.

This is a top-down sock with a traditional heel flap. It is worked using magic loop; needle 1 will be front of foot/instep/leg, and needle 2 will be back of the foot/leg and heel.

Materials:

MC: 260-400yds/238-366m fingering weight yarn (Sample uses Polka Dot Sheep Rime in ‘Depths’.)
CC: 12-20yds/11-18m lace weight yarn
(Sample uses Autumn and Indigo Suri Silk in ‘Overcast’.)
US #1.5/2.5mm 32” or longer circular needle, or 1/2 size larger than gauge needle
US #1/2.25mm 32” or longer circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
darning needle
stitch marker

Gauge:

32 sts and 40 rnds = 4”/10 cm in st st in the round on US #1/2.25mm needles

30 sts and 32 rnds = 4”/10 cm in colorwork on US #1.5/2.5mm needles

Sizes:

Adult small (medium,large)
8” (9”,10”)/20 (22.5, 24)cm actual foot circumference (Sock will fit with about 1”/2.5cm negative ease because of the cable patterning which pulls the sock in.)

Note: If you choose to use a fingering weight instead of the lace weight for the CC, your yardage will be different.
