This is my realistic Koala Crochet Pattern. It is ideal for intermediate and practised crocheters. Kalina the Koala would make a great addition to your crochet animal collection.

ABOUT THE PATTERN:
The koala bear crochet pattern has detailed step-by-step instructions, accompanied by high-quality photos of the process.
It includes instructions and material suggestions for both pictures of koalas (one 12 inches and one 16 inches)
This listing includes photo tutorials on how to make a magic ring, invisible decreases in single crochet, color changes in single crochet, invisible finishes and closing small rounds.

LANGUAGE: English (US)

CONSTRUCTION:
The fingers and toes are connected and sewn onto the arms and legs, which are crocheted onto the body. The chin, nose, ears, and head are sewn on.

SIZE:
The size of the koala depends on your yarn choice. If you use bulky (chunky/12-14 Ply) yarn and a 5 mm (H) hook for the large body parts, your koala will be approximately 12 inches (30 cm) tall (like the darker chenille yarn koala).

If you use super bulky (super chunky/16 Ply) yarn and a 7 mm (K) hook, your koala will be approximately 16 inches (40 cm) tall (like the lighter faux-fur yarn koala). If you want it to be larger, smaller or anything in between, you can use a different yarn weight and adjust the hook size accordingly.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
For the smaller koala approximately 12 inches (30 cm) tall:

  • Chunky (bulky/size 5/ 12-14 Ply) yarn in gray and cream. I used chenille (plush), but you could use any chunky (bulky/size 5/ 12-14 Ply) yarn. I used Cygnet Jelly Baby Chunky in Smokey Grey (1.5 skeins = 150g/180 m) and Vanilla (0.25 skein = 25g/30 m).
  • 5 mm (H-8) hook (for the body the body, arms, legs and back of ears)
  • 2.5 mm (C-2) hook (for the nose)
  • 15 mm safety eyes

For the larger koala approximately 16 inches (40 cm) tall:

  • Super chunky (super bulky/size 6/ 16 Ply) yarn in gray and cream. I used faux fur yarn, but you could use any super chunky (super bulky/size 6/ 16 Ply) yarn. I used Sirdar Alpine in Fawn (10 skeins = 500g/330 m) and Polar (1 skein = 50g/33 m)
  • 7mm (K-10 1/2] hook (for the body the body, arms, legs and back of ears)
  • 18mm safety eyes

For both koalas:

  • DK (light worsted/size 3/ 8 Ply) OR 4-Ply (Sport/size 2) yarn in black
  • DK (light worsted/size 3/ 8 Ply) chenille (plush) yarn OR other DK (light worsted/size 3/ 8 Ply) yarn in gray and light gray I used Rico Nilli Nilli in Grey and Silver Grey (1 skein each)
  • DK (light worsted/size 3/ 8 Ply) faux fur yarn (optional for the ears) I used King Cole Moments DK in Silver
  • 3.5 mm (E-4) hook (for the fingers, toes, nose, chin and front of ears of the larger koala or for the fingers, toes, chin, and front of ears of the smaller koala)
  • Fiberfill
  • 9 stitch markers
  • Yarn needle
  • Sewing pins
  • Scissors
