I love minimalism, but that doesn’t mean everything has to be smooth, basic, and devoid of texture. Knitting cables and other structures has a calming effect on me, stimulating my creativity. This is exactly how the Kallisto mittens came to life: a combination of earth tones, softness, warmth, and an eye-catching cables.
The pattern is designed in such a way that you can create full mittens or, with a small modification, get a version without fingers. Each hand is written separately because I wanted the cables on both hands to be a mirror image. You will find two sizes: S and M (though I must admit that I personally don’t like this way of marking sizes and would prefer size 1 and 2). The mittens are relatively loose and do not fit tightly to the hands.
The mittens are knitted from the ribbing to the fingers, while simultaneously shaping the thumb gusset. Then, the stitches for the thumb are transferred to a stitch holder or a piece of yarn, and the rest of the fingers are worked. Finally, the thumb is knitted at the end.
