Acer Palmatum “Kamagata” is one of my favourite Japanese maples. The spring and summer foliage is light green with red edges. The fall colour is reliable and bright orange red. The fall foliage is the inspiration for this cowl design.

The cowl is worked from one side to the other, starting with a provisional cast on. The edges are then grafted together using the Kitchener stitch.

The sample is shown in laceweight handspun. Any laceweight or light fingering weight yarn can be used.

Beads are optional.

Instructions are also given to make a larger (and longer) cowl.

Both charts as well as written instructions are given.

Approx. 250m of handspun was used in the sample. Additional yarn would be required for a larger cowl.

NOTE that the cowl was worked with a total of 4 repeat to get 23” in length.
