Kangaroo & Baby Roo Toys
Knit a big mama kangaroo toy with a little joey snugly tucked into her dress pocket
Lovely to make as a new baby gift, this cute pair are knitted flat on straight knitting needles from any Dk yarn you like. You’ll just need to be able to cast on and off, work stocking-stitch and do basic increasing and decreasing stitches to make these toys. No working in the round is needed. The big kangaroo’s dress is knitted in a colourful self-striping Dk yarn so there’s no fiddly colour changes as the yarn does all the hard work for you.
Big kangaroo measures 36cm tall when sitting
Suggested yarns for this pattern: I used one and a quarter balls of Wendy Supreme Dk in Gold (WD23) for the kangaroo colour. Alternatively you can use an identical amount of Stylecraft Special Dk in Gold (1709) OR King Cole Big Value Tweed Dk in Amber (3323) which are almost identical colours.
The dress is made from one ball of James C Brett Fairground Dk in colour G14.
The dress pocket is knitted from a small amount of Stylecraft Special Dk in Meadow (1065). You can of course use any makes/colours of yarn you prefer instead.
You’ll also need:
A pair of long 4mm straight knitting needles (for knitting the dress)
A pair of 3mm straight knitting needles (for knitting everything else)
Darning needle
Toy stuffing
Small lengths of black Dk yarn for sewing the facial features
This pattern is 14 pages long and illustrated with colour photographs to help you step-by-step through knitting and making up these toys.
