Here is an afghan with the kanji symbol for DREAM crocheted in the tapestry style but instead of using a chart, the row counts are provided. This style of working line-by-line instead of counting boxes on a graph can be an easier way of approaching the project.

How to work pattern:
Example: white10, black8, white1,black10. Ch1, turn
This means you sc 9 full white stitches, on the 10 white stitch, complete it by pulling black through the last 2 loops to complete. You are now ready to work the black stitches. Sc 7 full black stitches, on the 8th black stitch, complete it pulling white through the last 2 loops to complete, sc 1 white stitch complete it by pulling black through the last 2 loops, work 10 full black stitches, ch1, turn. You will have 10 white, 8 black, 1 white, 10 black
