I longed for a chunky beanie for the crisp, freezing days of midwinter. My wardrobe was missing a cable‑knit hat I had been dreaming of for quite some time. That’s how the idea
for the Forest cone beanie was born.

A super chunky yarn calls for simple cables. At the same time, the beanie is a great project for practicing cable knitting if the technique is new to you. I knitted the cables without a cable needle myself. If you’re using a very slippery yarn, I recommend using a cable needle to keep the stitches from slipping away.

A thick roving yarn is an excellent choice for a chunky beanie. The result is warm, soft, and striking all at once.

Knitting the beanie begins with a stretchy cast-on (the sample beanie uses a Tubular cast-on), followed by a 1x1 rib. The cables that come next are simple to work and suitable even for those who are just starting to practice cable knitting. The cables can also be worked without a cable needle.

Kaipaisin keskitalven kirpeisiin pakkaspäiviin paksua pipoa. Vaatekaapistani puuttui palmikkopipo, josta olin jo tovin haaveillut. Näin syntyi idea Käpy palmikkopiposta.

Paksu lanka kaipaisi yksinkertaisia palmikkoja. Samalla piposta tuli oiva projekti harjoitella palmikoiden neulomista, jos tekniikka ei ole aikaisemmin tuttu. Itse neuloin palmikot ilman apupuikkoa. Jos käytät pipossa kovin liukasta lankaa, suosittelen apupuikon käyttämistä, jotta silmukat eivät karkaa.

Paksu hahtuvalanka on mitä loistavin valinta paksuun pipoon. Piposta tulee samaan aikaan lämmin, pehmeä ja näyttävä.
