This pattern is gorgeous with lots of 3d texture. There are many elements to it including some granny squares that are also of my design. You can adjust size with yarn type and hook size as well as more or less rows and grannys.
This pattern has basic stitches. There a a few challenging rows but overall anyone can do it. It has pictures for almost every round as well as video tutorials. A beginner could do this is they were determined and took their time.
The pattern in dk is approximately 60 inches square. Bamboo will be smaller and aran will be larger. I use Stylecraft or Scheepjes. Use what you like or have available and use a hook size that is for the yarn you are using. Yarn and hook size will make the blanket size change.
I used 12 colors which makes it difficult to give an amount used. I had about 24 balls of dk to start and have a lot left. It is hard to say a gauge size because of all the different types of stitches used.
You will need yarn and appropriate hook, a darning needle, and scissors. Stitch markers can be small yarn scraps if you do not have any.
