Keep Calm and Crochet Union Jack Blanket
Here at Get Smitten we love a Union Jack project and so have extended our pattern portfolio to include this stunning crochet version. Originally created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day as well as a 1940s vintage festival, the name Keep Calm & Crochet seemed to fit well. Created using crochet squares, worked in the round, this is a project that you can take out and about with you and is worked in manageable bitesize pieces, rather than very long rows that require constant stitch counting and end up being cumbersome to carry around.
You can use any yarn you like on this project but the example shown is in a standard double knit (Stylecraft Special DK) and uses approximately 970g. The finished blanket is approximately 112cm x 168cm and you will need 11 balls of yarn for this project
The pattern is written in British crochet terms with the US terms in bold brackets & I consider this to be an intermediate level crochet project. It involves a magic ring, cluster stitches, working in back loops & using 2 colours in one block
