The joy of brioche for me is watching a pattern develop. As I stretched out the rounds between increases and decreases on this hat, a plant-like structure appeared. The taller it grew, the more it reminded me of a kelp forest. I hope you enjoy watching the growth of your own Kelp Forest Hat as you knit.

Finished size—19” (48 cm) circumference, unstretched, 8.5” (21.5 cm) deep—Brioche is very stretchy, so this hat will fit a wide variety of head sizes. The hat above is modeled on a 23” (58.5 cm) head.

Materials:
• Sport weight yarn—approx. 255 yds/233 m total
As shown, Malabrigo Arroyo—MC (green) 135 yds/123 m, CC (multi) 120 yds/110 m
• US Size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” (41 cm) needle (or size needed to obtain gauge) and DPNs of same size
• US Size 3 (3.25 mm) 16” (41 cm) needle
• Tapestry needle, locking stitch marker

Gauge: 20 sts = 4” (10 cm) in brioche rib
