This unofficial toque design is a tribute to the Kenora Thistles, a hockey team from Kenora, Ontario, celebrated for winning the Stanley Cup in 1907!

Knit in the round from the bottom up, the toque has a folded ribbed brim, 2-colour stranded colourwork for the body, simple crown shaping, and a pom-pom on top for a classic hockey toque look.

Materials
• Yarn: Briggs & Little, Regal 2-ply (100% wool; 272 yds/4 oz – 248 m/113 g per skein)
Main colour – Red BWO, 1 skein (Note: toque also pictured with Dark Grey as MC for an alternate colourway.)
Contrasting Colour – Bleached white, 1 skein
• US 7 (4.5 mm) – or size required to achieve gauge – 16 in. (40 cm) circular needle
• US 7 (4.5 mm) – or size required to achieve gauge – needles for working a small circumference in the round: DPNs,
or 1 long circular, or 2 short circulars
• Pen or pencil (for tracing pom-pom maker template)
• Scissors (to make cardboard pom-pom maker, and for trimming pom-pom)
• Stitch markers (2 different colours)
• Sturdy cardboard for DIY pom-pom maker
• Tapestry needle with blunt tip
• Optional: reusable plastic pom-pom maker approx 3 in. (7.5 cm) in diameter (instead of DIY cardboard pom-pom maker)

Gauge
20 sts and 26 rnds = 4 in. x 4 in. (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch (recommended to swatch in Body Chart pattern), washed and blocked, using US 7 (4.5 mm) – or size required to achieve gauge – needles.

Finished Measurements
Size: Adult Medium. Finished toque measures approx. 21½ in. (54.5 cm) in circumference around body of toque and has approx. ½ in. (1.25 cm) of negative ease. Overall height of toque is approx. 10¼ in. (26 cm) tall from lower edge of brim to top of crown with brim unfolded, and approx. 8½ in. (21.5 cm) tall from lower edge of brim to top of crown with brim folded in half.

Difficulty: Intermediate
This pattern involves knitting and purling, stranded colourwork, reading a chart, knitting in the round, and decreasing. The crown is completed using DPNs, magic loop, or two circular needles.
