This is a pattern for a shawl that combines a very old stitch with a Japanese ladder stitch, and is enhanced by beads, both in the focal stitch and in the optional crocheted edging. You can make the shawl without any beads at all.

The addition of the beads tends to give a “new life” to an antique lace stitch. There are several ways to bead knit contained within the pattern. There are also instructions for how to bead crochet the edging, should you want it edged with beads. There are also instructions for a simple crocheted edging.

Skill Level: Knitting: Intermediate (assuming some lace knitting experience)
Crocheting: Beginner + (assuming some experience with single crochet

The focal stitch is both charted and written out line by line, however, it is recommended that you have some familiarity with charts for this pattern.

The shawl was expertly test knitted by: Teddi Sherrill known on Ravelry as TeddiBear who can be reached at tms808@ gmail.com, and was knit using Handmaiden’s Casbah, in colorway, Jade.
