An adult beanie pattern, inspired by the colours in a Silk Wedding Kimono, that I saw being made in Gion, Kyoto, in the Winter of 2023

This little pattern is the result of that experience and inspiration of colour. It has a simple, easy to follow cabled rib, which emulates the padded hem of the kimono. The body of the hat is made up in simple stranded colourwork.

Yarn:-
I used Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn, which is a 4ply. For the colourway, you have 3
choices.
1 - If you want to knit the exact same beanie as in the image, you will need 18 colours.
Crimson for the rib and a little later on, Port Wine, Willow, Yell Sound Blue, Maroon, Cherry,
Chartreuse, Gold, Lavender or Lilac, Lipstick pink , Mantilla, Mogit, Amber, Lemon, Ginger,
Peach, - and the last two colours for the singing line are Midnight and Foxglove
2 – That’s a lot of colours, so you can knit it in 6 colours and repeat the blocks
3 – Or, you can choose any colours that you like from your stash. It is a very quick and easy
pattern and the options are never ending with colour options.
If you cannot get Jamieson’s yarn and you have a stash that requires 3mm needles to knit it, then you can also use your own lovely colours in this pattern.

Size:- This beanie measures 21 cms from the bottom of the hem to the centre point of the
crown. And the measurement around the head (circumference) is 57 to 58 cm, after blocking.

NOTE At the end, I also describe how you can knit a smaller sized Beanie but following the same chart.

Needles:- This hat was made using 3mm (2:5 US) circular needle and 3mm (2:5 US) double pointed needles to finish the crown and to knit the cabled rib.

Construction:- The Beanie has a very easy cable rib and Shetland motif body.

Gauge:- 3mm needles (2:5 US) - 33 stitches by 35 rows for a 4 inch / 10cm measurement. Sprindrift Yarn.
