Kite Illusion is a kite – shaped shawl, worked entirely in garter stitch, from the center towards the edges. Clever construction allows you to create an unusual and asymmetrical stripe pattern. An endless knit stitch makes this pattern great travel knit or a holiday knit.

Choose 2 fingering or heavy lace weight yarns in contrasting colours, or, as presented in the sample, mix both weights (lace and fingering) to create a warm and airy colourful fabric.

Kite Illusion is a great pattern to play with colours. You can use 2 contrasting colours, as presented in the sample, or more (for example each Contrasting Colour stripe worked in a different colour), or use a rainbow gradient colour yarn to achieve the spectacular effect.

YARN:
750 – 800 m {820 – 880 yards} of fingering or heavy lace weight yarn in MC (main colour)
350 – 400 m {382 – 440 yards} of fingering or heavy lace weight yarn in CC (contrasting colour)

Sample was made from:
MC: Silky Singles from The Uncommon Thread (70% Superwash Merino Wool, 30% Silk), 400m {437 yards}/ 100g skein, colour: Salty Air
CC: Glamour from Welthase (55% Bluefaced Leicester Wool (BFL), 45% silk), 600m {656 yards} / 100g skein, colour: Lipstick

SIZES: one size

GAUGE: 25 sts x 38 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm {4” x 4”} in garter stitch after blocking, with 3.25 mm {US 3} circular needle.
Change the needle size to obtain the gauge.

The gauge is not crucial for this project, but big differences will affect the measurements of the finished garment and the yardage requirements.

NEEDLES: 2 at least 37” long cables with 2 end stoppers and 1 set of interchangeable circular needles in size 3.25 mm {US 3} or 2 circular needles with a cable at least 37” long (each) in size 3.25 mm {US 3}

OTHER NOTIONS:
 10 yarn markers made from waste yarn to control the number of stitches when cast on
 7 markers (6 similar and 1 distinctive)
 blocking wires or blocking pins
