Do you feel like knittin’ Kittens on Mittens? These adorable little whiskered friends can go anywhere with you while warming your fingers and your soul! Grab a skein of your favorite color of fingering weight yarn, some eye-colored seed beads (size 6/0), size 1 circular needle (32” for magic loop) and a tiny crochet hook (size 14/0.75 which I found at our local Hobby Lobby).

What size will work for you? Just measure your hand (around your palm, in between your thumb and fingers). Toddler is 5”, Child or Small is 6”, Medium is 7”, and Large is 8” when finished. You can knit to your size or with half an inch positive or negative ease. (I prefer a slight negative ease to give me greater mobility in my mittens, but others like a little more room and need a bit of positive ease.) There is a suggested length in the pattern to knit for each size, but I highly recommend knitting it to the correct length for the wearer. If you are making a gift, ask the person to measure from the edge of their palm to the tip of their pinky, and from the inside of their thumb to about the halfway point of their thumbnail. (The sizes’ recommended lengths are based on general averages. Mine was far longer than recommended, my daughter and mother’s were far shorter.)

I had so much fun designing and knitting these Kittens, I hope you have just as much fun with them as I did!
Enjoy!
