This design is for use on standard gauge machines. Any brand may be used. No ribber is required but if you wish to make the ribbed neck version, it’s a big help. The hem top version has no need of a ribber at all. Passap and Superba settings are included. Passap uses DM80 language. Both hung and tubular hems are described.

Use #1 weight sock yarn that has mostly wool or acrylic content but a bit of lycra, elastane, polyamide or other stretchy fiber to give it memory. Any yarn that matches the gauge may potentially be used but fit and the ease of dressing the animal will be greatly improved using the yarn described. In addition, these yarns have many pretty self patterning designs that make a simple sweater look fancy. Another great thing about sock yarns is that they are designed for frequent washing. One 3.5 ounce skein is sufficient for all sizes.

Measure the kitty around the torso without squeezing and from base of skull to base of tail. Sizes given are actual circumferences of 1214, 16, 18, 20, 22” and to fit the length measurement of 1213, 14, 15, 16, 17”. This is a range from really tiny cats to extra large ones. The actual length of the sweater is three quarters of the torso length of the cat so as to stay out of the way of the cat’s personal hygiene.
