Speak out with this adorable and practical hat. It’s a baby-friendly bonnet … longer in back to protect tiny ears, with a shaped crown, a comfortably flat ribbed back border, and a cute rolled brim in front that extends into sweet ties.

Construction: Hat is worked from the bottom: flat over front brim then in the round. Back shaping is achieved with short rows. Crown and kitty-ear shaping are simple decreases and increases. The ties are worked as I-cords.

Sizing: 11.5 (12.5, 13.75, 15.25, 17, 18.25, 19, 20)“ circumference to fit preemie (newborn, 3-6 mo, 6-12 mo, 1-3 yr, 4-10 yr, teen, adult). Negative ease of about 10% is recommended.

Yarn: Sunday Knits sport weight yarns.
For main color: 1 50-gm skein plus 1 20-gm skein for adult size, 1 50-gm skein for all other sizes.
For contrasting color: 1 20-gm skein for all sizes.
Sample knit in Heaven (100% cashmere): Juliet for main color and Snow for trim.

Substitute any sport weight yarn that works nicely to gauge:
