The inspiration for these shawls came from a New Zealand friend who sent me a skein of wonderful multi-coloured lace weight hand spun. This became the small shawl or neckerchief.

The neckerchief can be as large or small as you wish, and can be worked in any weight yarn.

CONSTRUCTION
The neckerchief is worked from the tip up. The shawl is worked down and out from the centre back. The lace is then knitted on to the main part, removing those stitches.

What you need to know to make the shawls:

MATERIALS
35 g / 300 yds / 275 m lace weight yarn for the neckerchief
100 g /800 yds / 720 m lace weight yarn for the shawl
pair 4 mm needles
single 4.5 mm needle for casting off
3 stitch markers for the shawl

SIZE
Neckerchief: about 42” wide x 21” deep, but can be any size
Shawl: about 64” wide x 32” deep

TENSION
16 sts and 28 rows to 4” over pattern

The chevrons require yos on every row, but the pattern repeat is small. Either shawl would make a good project for someone wanting to try holes on every row.
