Knit Chainmail Gauntlets
Materials
~Two different sizes of needle (I used one 4mm and one 7mm, but I recommend your larger needle be 8mm size US 11)
~Yarn DK or lighter (I used some Star by Trendsetter Yarns that was on closeout at my local yarn store.)
~Darning needle for sewing up sides and weaving ends
Notes before we begin
You will want to measure your own arm, but for reference here is the gauge I got with my materials: 4 in = 17 st x 15 rows.
This is designed as a flexible pattern to suit individual sizes and needs, so you will adjust the number of cast on stitches based on your initial measurement. You will always need an ODD number.
To find your cast on number, circle your measuring tape around your forearm 3-4 inches behind your wrist. Cast on an ODD number to the large needle using a long tail cast on until you reach your measurement when the stitches are gently stretched. Make sure there is still at least 6 inches of tail left for sewing at the end of the project.
Every row will start and end with a purl stitch, this will be your selvedge edge. Every knit stitch will be knit into the BACK LOOP, which will create the maille ring effect.
Stitch legend:
p = purl
ktbl = knit through back loop
