Knit-In-Place Side Pocket
This knit-in-place pocket is just the pattern you need to add pockets to ANY one piece sweater! FINALLY you can add pockets to your cardigans (or pullovers!) without seams, without planning ahead, without steeking (even in colorwork) and without making a separate pocket panel and sewing it in later!
Check out my tutorial TEASER!! Full length tutorial included in the pattern.
This pocket pattern can be added to ANY sweater project WITHOUT side seams, including:
- Any yarn/gauge
- Top down/bottom up
- Single color/multi-color
- Knit flat/in the round (including colorwork/steeked, with NO pocket steek needed)
- Stockinette/patterned/textured stitches
- Pull over/cardigan
- Any hand size (Youth/Women’s/Men’s sizes given)
The pattern includes the very easy math needed to use YOUR own sweater gauge, so no conversions are needed for yarn type or needle sizes. You DO NOT need to pre-plan a pocket addition before starting your sweater! As long as you’ve reached the right place in your sweater’s pattern, you can add this pocket on the fly!
Please note that although the knitting is very easy (stockinette, kfb increase, k2tog/ssk decrease, german short rows, 3 needle bind off) the knitter will need to have the skills necessary to understand their sweater’s overall construction, and (most importantly) interrupt their sweater’s pattern, work the pocket instructions, then pick up the sweater pattern again. It’s not difficult, but does require a bit of spatial reasoning.
Sizes available:
- Youth - Pocket opening 3” tall, 4” deep
- Women’s - Pocket opening 4” tall, 6” deep
- Men’s - Pocket opening 5” tall, 7” deep
Pocket size can be easily adjusted on the fly by knitting more rows and increases/decreases.
If you add this pocket pattern to your sweater, please tag so others can find it!
