A beautiful seamless cardigan with lace panels or cables knit top down to the underarm, taking the sleeves off onto waste yarn and continuing the body down to the hem and then taking the sleeves off the waste yarn and knitting in the round to the cuffs. The matching hat knit top down can be made with or without the lace pattern or with or without ear flaps which are knit using short rows. The hat can also be made bigger by following the increase formula until you have the number of stitches to give you less than your head circumference in your gauge.

Sizes:
NB, 3 months, 6 months with 5.0mm needles with a gauge of 16 St by 23 rows;
Preemie, Small Nb, NB with 4.5mm needles with a gauge of 18 St by 24 rows (shown in italics in the pattern).

Please swatch to get gauge. I find that I never get the gauge stated on yarn labels and normally have go down in needle size. The samples that I knit up we’re all done with Loops & Threads Impeccable and one skein is more than the yardage requirement. One test knitter used Patons Astra for the 6 month size and had less than 1 yard left after knitting the cardigan and a hat with no ear flaps.
