Go knit (and spread) some love!

Make as many hearts as you want. It makes a quick but lovely gift for the Holidays, a birthday, or just when someone needs some extra love in their lives. You can use all of your leftover yarns.

Yarn
You can use any type of yarn you want. This heart is a perfect project to use up all your leftover yarn! Keep in mind that the thicker the yarn, the bigger the heart becomes. Use your imagination and be playful! You also can, for example, add some mohair if you like a fluffy version.

I used 2 threads of fingering weight sock yarn (6 g each) for my versions. This equals to a DK weight yarn (so you’d need about 12 g of DK). Other yarn weight will need a different amount of yarn.

Notions

  • tapestry needle
  • stitch marker (to mark the beginning of the round)
  • stuffing: polyfil, scrap yarn or scrap fabric and some dried lavender or essentials oils if you’d like the heart to have a nice smell

Needles and gauge
The needle size depends on the yarn you use. I recommend taking the smallest needle the yarn label recommends. Maybe you even need a size smaller if you’re a loose knitter. Make sure the needle you use makes a tight fabric (but not so tight you’re not able to knit): the polyfil shouldn’t be visible through the fabric.

For the samples I’ve used 3 mm needles, circulars 80 cm for magic loop. You need an extra needle in (about) the same size to join 2 parts of the heart.

Gauge totally depends on the choices you make and isn’t too important for this pattern.
