This cute deer toy is a charming handmade decoration that adds a cozy touch to any home. It can be used as home decor, a photo prop, a keychain for a backpack or keys, or a small toy for children’s games. A versatile and adorable handmade deer, perfect as a gift, seasonal decor, or everyday companion.

The head, body, front legs and hind legs of a deer, tail, nose, antlers and scarf are knitted in a circle. The ears are knitted by the turning rows. All details are sewn to the base. The eyes, mouth and spots on the deer’s back are embroidered with sewing thread. The scarf is removable.

THE PATTERN INCLUDES: Row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the Christmas deer toy, photos, videos, a list of abbreviations and explanation of all techniques, a materials list. To create such Christmas tree toy you shall know how to make knit and purl stitches, all other actions (cast on, decreases, increases etc.) are shown in many pictures and videos. You will succeed!

MATERIALS and TOOLS you will need to knitting Deer:

  1. You can use any suitable wool/cotton yarn with similar footage and properties. I used 4 yarn colors with a similar footage:

a. Alize Lanagold Fine yarn (51% acrylic, 49% wool) 100 grams (3.53 ounces) in 426 yards (390 meters) in one (1) strand, color 01 white;

b. Stock bobine yarn Zegna Baruffa Softly mouline (100% extrafine merino wool) 100 grams (3.53 ounces) in 383 yards (350 meters) in one (1) strand, color #520731 red mouline;

c. Alize Superwash (wool 75% polyamide 25%) 100 grams (3.53 ounces) in 459 yards (420 meters) ) in one (1) strand, color 207 – beige brown;

d. Stock bobine yarn Zegna Baruffa Art. BABA MULTIFI (Merino 70% Cashmere 30%) 100 grams (3.53 ounces) in 328 yards (300 meters) in one (1) strand, color light gray;

To knit a toy, you can use all threads of different colors and the same length. Or choose the yarn in accordance with the above examples. For one Deer toy, you will need about 0,5Oz (15 grams) of yarn;

  1. Circular needles with long line (from 23.6’’ (60cm)) for round knitting, or Addi Crazy Trio needles, or double pointed needles. I used US 2 (2,75mm) size needles. Select a knitting needle size based on the specified knitting gauge and your yarn: from US 0 (1,75mm) to US 2 (3,0mm).

  2. Toy stuffing (holofiber, thinsulate etc.);

  3. Sewing threads for embroidery in 3 colors: white, brown and black;

  4. Scissors; thick, thin and tapestry needle;

  5. 1 knitting marker.
