When Barbara Walker told me that she once used fishing line to craft durable bags for clothespins it me made wonder about other unconventional materials that could be knitted. I’ve experimented with quite a few things since then -- twine, fine leather strips, and even VCR tape -- but so far, my best find has been a flexible 24-karat gold and sterling silver wire from my local beading store. Unlike regular wire, it’s coated with nylon, which makes it especially flexible and easy to knit.
