Sizes: Older child (adult small, adult medium, adult large) to fit hand circumference of approximately 6.5 (7, 7.5, 8)”/16 (17.5, 19, 20) cm, as measured at base of 4 fingers.

Gauge: 15 sts and 20 rounds to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch.
Yarn: Bulky yarn, approximately 75 (90, 105, 125) grams/85 (100, 115, 130) yards/75 (90, 105, 125) meters.

The sample was made with Debbie Bliss Merion, a 50% wool/50% acrylic yarn with 109 yards to 100 grams. Other bulky wool and wool-blend yarns would work well. Similar yarns to the one used for the sample include Valley Yarns Haydenville Bulky, Plymouth Chunky Merino, Cascade Llamerino Chunky, Cascade 220 Grande, Lion Brand Hue + Me, Berroco Vintage Chunky, and others.

Needles: US 9/5.5 mm and US 7/4.5 mm, or size to obtain gauge plus two sizes smaller. These mittens are worked in the round, so you will need either dpns In both sizes or a long circular needle, if you prefer to use the Magic Loop method.

Notions:
• Marker for beginning of round
• waste yarn of approximately same weight as working yarn but contrasting color, approximately 12”/30 cm long
• tapestry needle to weave in ends
• black or other contrasting scrap yarn to embroider facial features.
