I knit three of these totes using Geneva, Louet Euroflax Linen Yarn and 3 yards of cotton fabric. The fabric is knit in 1” strips. If you make the strips the long way (3 yard side) the knots on the tote are spaced farther apart then if you make the strips the short way (45” side)

My mom and my mom-in-law also knit one, but they used Fantasy Cotton from Plymouth.

Both worked out great! (however, the cotton is less expensive)

The tote is knit in one long rectangle. Then sew the side seams.

The strap is knit in stockinette using the fabric. The knots are kept on the purl side and then the strap is sewn to the tote with the purl side (and knots) showing.
