This is now a fundraising pattern, see below

A knitting pattern for a basic close-fitting beanie hat in 7 sizes, to fit a newborn baby right up to adult size, plus instructions to make it into either a koala or a panda hat.

There are 2 sizes of ears, noses and panda’s “eye spots’ to fit the size of beanie you are making. Also a choice of 2 simple hem styles.

This is a written pattern for a hat made on 2 needles with a back seam, using any smooth 8 ply / DK yarn.

The basic hat pattern is the same for either the koala or the panda and can also be used as a simple stocking stitch beanie pattern without the animal features.

Fundraiser; 2020 update:
This pattern (as well as my Koala Tea Cosy) is now a fundraiser for koalas affected by the Australian bushfires. For every pattern sold till the end of June 2020, AU$5 will be donated to a charity caring for koalas. Initially the charity will be “Queensland Koala Crusaders” who are aiming to provide a koala sanctuary near Noosa.
Concurrently Marianne Alcock(rav username malcock) from Brisbane is organising knitted items to be donated, from this and other patterns, to be used as fundraisers. Message her with your email address for more info.

Other patterns of mine now designated fundraisers for “AnimalsAustralia” who support charities caring for injured and displaced animals.:
Toy kangaroo and joey
Toy wombat
Toy bat
Spider and bat hats

1st February 2020 update
This and the Koala tea cosy pattern have now made AU$215 for the koala charity.
Thank you to everyone who has bought the patterns!
Here’s a message from the Queensland Koala Crusaders:

“Thanks so much for your very generous gift to Queensland Koala Crusaders and supporting the efforts to protect this iconic Australian species.
We are enormously grateful for your support. It is only with your help that we can succeed in our objectives to help stem the rapid decline of wild koala populations across the state, and to help find sustainable solutions to ensure a promising future for koalas.
Your gift makes the world of difference for the koala population under threat across Queensland.”
