This shawl was inspired by the Finnish national scenery in Koli. Simple garter stitch mimics the solid rock underneath and in the lace sections of the shawl, you can find the tops of the conifers that rhythm the landscape. The bottom of the shawl is adorned with a wave-like lace, like the waves gently hitting the shore of the lake Pielinen. The color scheme of the sample shawl is a reminiscent of the nature in Koli: moss-dotted rock, shimmering green conifers and blue-gray waves on a cloudy day. The shape of the shawl is a combination of a semi-circle and crescent, so it’s easy to wear it either on the neck or on the shoulders.

SUPPLIES

Yarn
Nurja merino single (366 m / 100 g | 400 yd / 100 g) in three different colors, one skein each OR other fingering weight yarn in three colors, approximately 366 m | 400 yd each.

Sample shawl is knitted in colors Ukko (cA), Pielinen (cB) and Koli (cC).

Please note, that the yardage of color A is very close to a whole skein. So, pay attention to your gauge and make sure your skein is not underweight! I suggest you use color C for knitting your swatch.

For the two-colored version that you can also see in the photos, I used Nurja merino single in their black labeled colorways: one skein of Timantti and two skeins of Ametisti.
