“Komugi”, wheat in Japanese, is a boxy cardigan that dresses up your casual outfit.
It is worked from the top down seamlessly. The fronts and back are first worked back and forth separately. After short-row shoulder shaping, the back is worked in moss stitch (called point de blé, “wheat stitch” in French!) and the fronts in Komugi pattern to the underarm, then joined. The lower body is knitted in one piece to the hem with the stitch patterns different on the fronts and back, and a lateral braid is added just before the hem as an accent.
The sleeves are worked from stitches picked up around the arm openings, down in the round in stockinette stitch, with a lateral braid just before the cuffs as on the body. The front and neck edging are finished neatly with I-cord.

Needles
3.5 mm / US 4 circular needle (for body, ribbing, lateral braids, front and neck edging); 60 – 100 cm / 24 – 40” or longer circular needle ― Adjust cable length to fit sts comfortably.
4 mm / US 6 needles (for body, sleeves); 40 – 100 cm / 16 – 40” or longer circular needle and double-pointed needles (optional if you use magic loop) ― Adjust cable length to fit sts comfortably.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions
Stitch markers, spare circular needle in both sizes, tapestry needle, cable needle, waste yarn or stitch holders, crochet hook (if needed)

上から下へ向かってとじはぎなしで編む. まず, 前後身頃を別々に往復編みする. 肩を引き返し編みで形作った後, 後ろ身頃はかのこ編みで(フランスでは, かのこ編みのことをポワン・ド・ブレ, 麦ステッチと呼ぶのだそう!), 前身頃はKomugi模様で脇下まで編み, その後前後身頃を繋ぎ合わせる. 後半もそのまま前後身頃で違う模様を入れながら編み進み, 裾の直前でアクセントとしてブレード(横編み)を加える. 袖は袖開きから目を拾ってメリヤス編みで輪にして編み, 身頃と同様に袖口の直前でブレードを加える. 前身頃と襟の縁編みは, I-コードで丁寧に仕上げる.
