Here is a basic worsted weight hat for free in many sizes. You can add more sizes by adding or subtracting 4 stitches.

The hat starts with 2X2 rib and about 20 metres of Rowan Pure Wool Worsted. Add a stripe if you have small amounts left over.

The body is knit in stocking stitch holding three strands of skinny singles together from Hedgehog Fibres. Use up three different colours for an amazing marled effect. Guaranteed to present an original pattern. Have fun and throw all your leftovers at this hat. The crown shaping is easy to execute with the help of stitch markers. If you have added or subtracted 4 stitches just add one more stitch or one less stitch between stitch markers to get an even crown decrease.

The finished hat is a warm beginning to a beautiful fall.

The background hat in the second photo is my Step It Up Hat. Also a free pattern.
