Kosynka is a simple triangular scarf that makes a truly timeless accessory. It can cover your head and neck and pairs effortlessly with any outfit for any occasion. This pattern is a reinterpretation of a traditional accessory once worn by my Ukrainian grandmothers.

The pattern can be knitted with different yarns and gauges, so there’s no limit to your creativity here and a lot of room to use your scraps.

I’ll share my favourite versions here: three sizes for a simple merino version and one bonus melange version.

This pattern includes a description of basic steps and techniques that apply to all versions. You will find the yarn, needle size, and gauge recommendations separately for each version.

Classic versions are knit using 5mm (US 8) needles.
Other versions are knit with 6mm (US10).

Again, you may use any yarn and needle size of your preference and knit your own version. I’d LOVE to see all your versions here or on instagram by #KosynkaScarf tag.
