ERRATA at bottom of notes

I think we’d all agree that 2020 deserves a visit from Krampus this holiday season…

Krampus is the anti-Santa if you will. Krampus comes for the little children who have been misbehaved all year. Instead of treats and gifts from Santa…Krampus swats you with birch branches and if you have been exceptionally bad…carts you off to the underworld…

So for a little festive fun this winter I crafted up my Krampusnacht Socks. Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) are a little bit dark and spooky, a little bit cheeky and a lot of festive fun.

Toe-up construction and stranded colour work are featured in this pattern, as well as a German Short Row heel…or use the Fish Lips Kiss Heel if you prefer.

The stranded colour-work is presented in chart format, with a larger easy to read chart at the end of the pattern.

Use high contrast yarn for super clear colour-work, or low contrast/speckled yarn for a more blended appearance.

Skills Required
Judy’s Magic Cast-on, working in the round, knit, purl, slipping stitches, increasing, stranded colour-work knitting, bind off using a stretchy method.

Materials
Sample Yarn Used:
1 x 100g/3.5oz, 423m/463yds skein, Direful Yarns, Slasher Sock, 75% superwash merino/25% nylon in colour Krampus.

1 X 100g/463yds/423m skein, Barnyard Knits Fingering, 75% superwash merino/25% nylon in colour Pheasant.

Yardage: 1 x 100g skein of the MC is more than enough for the largest size, and approx. 20-30g of CC is needed. The S and M sizes could easily be knit from a sock set with a 100g skein and a 20g mini. The large may require more yardage for the CC.

Suggested Needles:
2.5mm/US 1.5, 80cm/32” length for magic loop for the stockinette stitch section OR size(s) needed to obtain gauge.
2.75mm/US 2, 80cm/32” length for magic loop for the stranded colour-work sections OR size needed to obtain gauge.
Many knitters go up 1-2 sizes for the colour work portion to maintain gauge. Darning needle.

Gauge: 34sts and 46 rounds/10cm or 4”, in the round, in stockinette stitch with the smaller needles AND in the stranded colour-work with the larger needles.

Sizes:
Small = Ladies US size 4-6.5
Medium = Ladies US size 7-9/Mens US size 6-8
Large = Ladies US size 9.5-12/Mens US size 8.5-11

Errata!! This is what I get for rushing! Now I’ll probably get a Krampus visit tonight!! lolol

In the German Short row heel section the numbers should be as follows:

Row 1 (RS): K28 (32, 36), turn,
Row 2 (WS): DS, p27 (31, 35), turn,
Row 3 (RS): DS, k to the next double stitch, turn,
Row 4 (WS): DS, p to the next double stitch, turn,

Rep Row 3 & 4 until you have 9 (11, 12) double stitches on the left
side of the heel, and 8 (10, 11) double stitches on the right side
of the heel.

If you have downloaded Krampusnacht Socks 1.2 you have the corrected version
