Kryla means wings. Wings that shield and stretch into the wind.
This shawl is dedicated to Ukraine, to its strength and its resistence.
The triangular construction, worked from the top down, echoes the shape of an open wing. The motif, repeated and expanded towards the border, entwines two colours, blue and yellow of course, in a continuous gesture where each strand supports the other.
Kryla is a top-down triangular shawl that combines Echo knitting with lace elements and color details created using dip stitches. The result is a textured fabric that’s both intricate and expressive.
Because the Echo-knit garter stitch grows more in width and less in height than standard garter stitch, the usual top-down triangle shaping had to be adjusted: instead of four increases every two rows, this shawl uses six every four. The final shape is slightly shallower and noticeably wider than a typical triangular shawl, something I personally find more wearable.
The pattern comes in three sizes: the smallest is just a bit more than a bandana, the medium size is a shawlette, and the largest is truly large — like a pair of wide, open wings.
At the bottom edge, the motif becomes more elaborate, and a play of picots and detached i-cord in the BO adds lightness and movement, like the flicker of feathers caught in flight.
