Kumiko is a Japanese anime inspired Kokeshi doll that is fun and easy to make! You can decorate Kumiko however you like with ribbons, beads, embroidery, or flowers.

This crochet pattern is written in English. It contains simple instructions and photographs to show you how to make this Japanese kimono doll and hair flower as a gift for friends and family, or to add to your own amigurumi collection.

ABBREVIATIONS ARE IN USA TERMS

You’ll need to know these basic stitches, plus how to change yarn color:

• MR - Magic Ring
• Sc – Single Crochet
• Slst - Slip stitch
• Tch - Turning chain
• Inc - Increase
• Dec – Decrease
• BLO - Back loop only
• FO - Fasten off
• Tc - Treble crochet (optional for the flower accessory)

The pattern is crocheted in a spiral round unless specific otherwise.

SIZE

I used an 8/4 yarn with a 3mm crochet hook. My Kumiko Kokeshi Doll turned out approximately 5 inches high.

MATERIALS

Any yarn in cream or beige, plus two contrasting colors (e.g. turquoise and pink)
Scraps of yarn for the hair flower
Crochet hook that matches the size of your yarn
Tapestry/yarn needle
Stitch marker
Scissors
Polyfill stuffing
A pair of safety eyes and washers. I used 10mm safety eyes
Beads, ribbons, extra yarn etc. for decorating
Clear multi-purpose glue
