Pay What You Can: In order to balance both fair and sustainable pricing and financial accessibility, I now offer a “Pay What You Can” pricing model. I hope that this new model helps to value my and other’s work that’s gone into this pattern while at the same time allowing for financial flexibility for everyone who chooses to purchase it.

The middle price shown below (€10) reflects the fair and sustainable value of the pattern (assuming minimum wage for me as a designer and an average number of copies sold based on surveys I did last year).

In addition to that, you can choose between a few different price points. Simply click on the price you’d like to pay. Please note that Ravelry might add on VAT to that, depending on where you’re based.

€6 | €8 | €10 | €12 | €14

A note on why I chose to also add levels higher than the fair value of the pattern: In order for my knitwear design work to be sustainable, the average pattern sale price needs to equate to the fair and sustainable pattern value. If you choose a price point higher than the “fair” price, you’re helping to make up the difference of one of the lower price points to the “fair” value.

The Kuopio Socks are an homage to one of my closest friends from Finland. Our paths diverge and merge over and over again, just like the stitches in the pattern panel featured in these socks, and I haven’t given up hope yet that I can convince her to come back to Berlin from the cold north of her home country. The socks are named after her hometown - I have beautiful memories of a joint trip to Kuopio, spending hours sitting at the lake and watching the sun set together.

They’re knit toe-up with a gusset and heel flap heel and adjustable foot and leg length to make sure you can knit a pair of socks that really fits you.

The yarn used to design this pattern is Tukuwool Fingering, a 100% Finnish yarn without added nylon. It’s strong and holds up well as a sock yarn despite lack of any added strengthener, and I love the broad color palette it’s available in.

YARN

Tukuwool Fingering: 100% Finnish wool, 195 meters / 213 yards per 50 g

2 skeins

The sample is knit in colorway Uupo (23).
