This cute little knitted beanie. is easy and quick to knit. It is inspired by the colours of a Silk Wedding Kimono that I saw being sewn in the Gion District of Kyoto in December 2023.
It has a very easy simple cabled rib and a very quick and easy Stranded knit, Shetland Motif in the body.

Yarn:- Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn, which is a 4ply. For the colourway, you have 3 choices.
1 - If you want to knit the exact same beanie as in the image, you will need 14 colours. Crimson, Chartreuse, Foxglove, Gold, Sorbet, Yell Sound Blue, Mantilla, Willow, Amber, Lemon, Burnt Umber, Peach - and the last two colours for the singing line are Port Wine and Seabright.
2 - If you would like to knit the alternative simple coloured beanie – you need 6 colours – Anemone, Loganberry, Foxglove, Pot Pourri, and Crimson and Amber for the singing line.
3 – You can choose any colours that you like from your stash. It is a very quick and easy pattern and the options are never ending with colour options.

If you cannot get Jamieson’s Spindrift, yarn and you have a stash that requires 3mm needles to knit it, then you can also use your own lovely stash colours in this pattern. If you want to experiment with double knitting yarn, you will achieve a bigger beanie.

I suggest that if you are choosing your own colours that you swatch your colour ideas before setting off on the pattern. The pattern has many photographs including colour swatches to give you alternative colour ideas.

Size:- This beanie is modelled by a 6 month old baby and measures 19cm from the bottom of the hem to the centre point of the crown. And the measurement around the head (circumference) is 44 – 46 cm.

The beanie was blocked over an inflated balloon and could be made a little larger – or, you could use double knitting yarn and the finished results will come out a bigger size.

Needles:- This hat was made using 3mm circular needle and 3mm double pointed needles to finish the crown and to knit the cabled rib.

Construction :- The Beanie has a very easy cable rib, knitted over 6 Knit stitches and one purl stitch (full instructions in the pattern) and Shetland motif body. All stitch guides (ie how to cable) and colour chart are added to this pattern as well as written instructions on how to decrease for the crown.

Gauge:- 3mm needles - 33 stitches by 35 rows for a 4 inch / 10cm measurement. Sprindrift Yarn.

This is a baby / toddler beanie. It is quick and easy to make, you can use your stash to create it

The adult size will be out in one week.
