La Pigna is a slightly slouchy colourwork hat worked in Aran weight yarn, so it works up quickly. Using a tubular cast-on, it starts with twisted ribbing and a long section of stockinette stitch. You can fold over the brim when it gets really cold and the pattern will still be visible. The hat is long enough to fit over your hair even if you wear it in a bun or ponytail.

Finished size 19½ (22, 23¾)” / 49.5 (56, 60)cm circumference, 10½“ / 27cm deep, unfolded

Yarn Two skeins of Baa Ram Ewe’s Dovestone Natural Aran
(Aran weight; 50% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Wensleydale, 25% Masham; 186yds/170m per 100g skein), shown in 2 (Natural) and 4 (Light Brown)
(Two skeins should be enough for two hats if you reverse CC and MC on the second hat.)

Gauge 20 sts and 28 rnds = 4” in stockinette stitch, using
larger needles, after blocking

Needles US 7 and 8/4.5 and 5mm circular needles, at least
24”/60cm long, or other needles for working small
circumferences in the round

The yarn for this pattern was kindly given to me by the folks at baa ram ewe, thank you! Tech-editing was done by the wonderful electronjam.
