Knit up this light and versatile lace poncho in a flash. You can knit up a short or long version, or adjust to your own custom length.

The poncho can be worn three ways: snug over the shoulder, fringe forward or fringe to the back. The stitch is based on an easy stockinette lace ladder pattern, and has an easy 6-stitch pattern repeat.

Looks great with a cotton/viscose slub yarn with silky strand,
linen/flax yarn or ribbon yarn. Please note that yarn selection is important. The poncho should be made with a yarn that is substantial enough (not lace weight or fingering). Check gauge to determine suitability and adjust needle size as needed. Samples made with Pingouin Flamine (DK weight, black, turquoise) and Gedifra Top Look (bulky weight, white).

The design is worked in one piece with short-row shaping so that the poncho hugs close to your shoulder. There is just one seam to sew up, with instructions given to create a join which exactly matches the lace pattern, and after blocking the poncho appears seamless. Attach the fringe and you’re ready to go!

Pattern includes schematics and detailed seaming diagram.
