This shawl is one of two patterns from the Aran Lace book by Annie Maloney; the book is a stitch dictionary and contains 101 original Lace Cable Stitch Designs.

From the book: “This pattern was designed and written for a heavy worsted weight wool, but any yarn that shows the stitch pattern would be suitable. This finished shawl will probably need blocking to spread out the knitting, as the pattern doesn’t show well when it’s constricted.”

Beginning with a provisional cast-on at the neck, this shawl uses a unique “two-and-two-half triangle” construction and short rows for shaping.

Initial set-up rows are charted and written out, but once the pattern is established the pattern is worked from charts only.
