Mosaic & Lace Knits is an introduction to a technique that I have been developing over several years that brings colorwork into lace using slip stitches. Handling only one strand of yarn at a time, no carrying along the row or stranding, allows development of colorwork patterns without any floats running behind your work and obscuring your lace.

A cowlette has all of the style of wearing a triangular shawl wrapped “bandit style” without all of the fuss of doing the wrapping. Worked flat to start with the piece is then joined to knit in the round in this fun mesh pinstripe pattern.

Color work isn’t typically done in linens and cottons but I wanted the book to have pieces that were wearable year round. The Lindy Chain from Knit Picks fit the bill perfectly.

The pattern also features a fun faux picot bind off that is simple to work and finishes off the piece perfectly. You can find a video that shows you how to work this bind-off here

The pattern also makes use of a non-standard right leaning double decrease I called ssk-pssf-s1 and you can find a video on how to work this stitch here.

If you would like to see this piece in action you can watch the pattern tour video on my YouTube channel Watch Barbara Knit.

The sample is knit in the colors Plum and Linen
