“The stitch pattern of this afghan was inspired by patterns from German folk stockings.” (So says heading at top of page.)

Original yarn is 100% cotton, it obtains 16sts x 24rows to 4” in stocking stitch. It has 140yds to a ball.

Pattern note says to slip all first stitches as to knit, but this does not create the pretty chain edge shown. Slip all first stitches as to purl and you will have the pretty chain edge.

A cable needle may be desired for row 3. Please note that while creating the cable, you are also creating the lace pattern. The given dirctions are correct.

A tapestry needle is needed for securing yarn ends.

Size 8 (5mm) crochet hook is needed to create the fringe.

The pattern as written will create an afghan 52x54”, which is nearly square.

Pattern is a multiple of 14+10, and 8 rows. Pattern can easily be adjusted by adding or subtracting multiples of 14, and by working more or fewer rows, and long as the work is ended at row 5, per the instructions.
