Lady Cordelia Cardigan

Lady Cordelia was designed for the PEI Fibre Festival in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island September 2022. It was designed especially for Anne Shirley’s Prince Edward Island. and featuring PEI’s own Fleece and Harmony’s Selkirk yarn in trillium, the color is inspired by the enchanting green and white flower found all over the island. I like to think Anne would love this color- and the tribute to some of her favorite wild flowers. This pattern was to debut at the PEI Fibre Festival today September, 24th 2022, but Hurricane Fiona is threatening PEI , so to keep everyone safe, the founders of the PEI Fibre Festival cancelled this event, or rather postponed this event until October 2023, well after hurricane season. I’m carrying through and releasing this pattern today , in honor of the Festival and its organizers who did planned an incredible event. Here’s to my friends in PEI. I’m thinking of you!

Lady Cordelia is a traditional Norwegian Kofte. It’s knit bottom up, with my favorite buttonband. It has three steeks. One for the cardigan and two for the sleeves. It’s a bottom to top flower explosion. I was inspired by Anne Shirley’s (Anne of Green Gables) ability to see beauty and create flower crowns at whim on her way to school. This cardigan is a love note to PEI. Thinking and missing being there just now. Here’s to PEI’s debut Fibre Festival. I can’t wait until October 2023. Knit with Selkirk worsted, this sweater works up quickly.

Note: Know your row gauge. Row gauge varies wildly from knitter to knitter. Notice that the row gauge is either 26 or 24 stitches. This means that the same number of rows for Size 1 and 2 will have a different length. If your row gauge is different that mine, you may need work additional (or fewer rows) to get the correct measurements. Make sure you complete a motif plus 2 rows of a single color. Additional length could be added to the ribbing. The length is slightly cropped so if you would like a longer cardigan, you can add an additional pattern motifs. You can also make the sleeves longer (or shorter) if needed. Tailor fitting knits is one of the best part of knitting. You can knit the perfect width for you, and then knit the perfect length for you. Pay attention to the finish measurements and add or subtract motifs as need.
