This shawl is named after one of my favorite places, the Lake Constance, or Bodensee in German. It is one of the largest lakes in Europa and is situated at the southern border of Germany, sharing its shores with Austria and Switzerland. It has its own very special beauty and climate, and for me it´s one of those places that make you feel at peace. When picking colors for this design, Lake Constance’s waters and beautiful environment immediately sprang to mind.

PATTERN NOTES:
The shawl is worked top-down, starting with a garter tab from the center of the triangle. There are four increases worked on every RS row, one next to the three-stitch garter edging at the beginning and end of the rows, and one on each side of the center stitch.
The pattern uses five colors in total. One main color and four contrast colors.
It is structured in sections, starting with garter stitch stripes, followed by a segment worked in little butterfly stitch pattern, which also works as transition from one contrast color to the next.
Finally, a tassel is added to each tip to finish the shawl.

The pattern comes with chart and written instructions, as well as a photo tutorial on how to make the tassels.
I also included a coloring page to help choosing colors.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
approx. 180 cm / 72” along the long side
approx. 78 cm / 31½“ along the center spine

See also schematic in photos.

NEEDLES:
3.0 mm/US 2½ circular needle 80 cm/32½“ or a length appropriate for you to knit the number of sts on the needles comfortably.

YARN:
Holst Garn Coast Uld Bomuld (55% Wool- Merino/45% Cotton; 350 m (383 yd)/50 g).

MC: Dove- 2 skeins

Or any other light fingering weight or heavy lace weight yarn that gives you the correct gauge.

This pattern is easily adaptable for other yarn weights.
If using a different weight of yarn, I recommend a gauge that
gives you a drapey but solid fabric in garter stitch.

CC2: Approx. 165 m/180 yd
CC3: Approx. 185 m/200 yd
CC4: Approx. 65 m/75 yd
