In the northern Rockies, periodic forest fires empty the landscape of color. Within a few weeks, grasses and trees sprout in the understory. As the bark falls from the burned trees the silver snags begin to dominate the canopy, where they will stand for decades to come. Along with the blue skies, the green and silver of living and dead trees create a classic palette of a young, post-fire forest.

‘Lakeside’ is a reflection of the colors and patterns that appear in a landscape in the years after it burns. The repeating vertical motif holds the story of the changing forest.
